Minutes are talk time. A 10-minute call uses 10 minutes — we count the conversation, not each participant. Calls nobody answers cost nothing.

Top-ups are for Plus subscribers, and they never expire. Video and voice top up separately, so you only pay for the one you actually ran down.

Two kinds of call, because they're used for different things.
You choose per person. Grandma is a video contact. "Mum at work" can be a voice one.
Video — for the long ones
The calls where seeing each other is the point. A grandparent watching a toddler show them a drawing, three minutes at a time, a few times a week. Sixty minutes a month covers that comfortably.
Voice — for the quick ones
"I'm ready to be picked up." Fifteen seconds, every school day, and nobody needs to see anything. Voice costs us far less to carry, so you get five times as many minutes of it.
A parent sets each contact to video or voice in settings. The child still taps one face and one thing happens — there's no mode to pick and nothing extra on their screen.
Pricing questions
What's the difference between a video and a voice minute?
Only whether the cameras are on. A voice call carries far less data, which costs us much less, so we can give you five times as many voice minutes for the same money.
You decide per contact, in settings. A call set to voice stays voice for its whole duration — it can't be switched to video halfway through, so pick the mode that suits how you use that person.
How many minutes does a family actually use?
A short daily video call to one grandparent is roughly 2–3 minutes, which is about 60–90 minutes a month — Plus covers that. A daily "come and get me" call from school is about 15 seconds, so 300 voice minutes is far more than most families will ever use.
What can I do with the free plan's 20 minutes?
They're shared — spend them on video, on voice, or on both. That's roughly seven short video calls, or a few weeks of daily pickup calls, which is enough to find out whether the habit sticks before you pay anything.
Do unused minutes roll over?
On Plus, yes. Video rolls over up to a balance of 180 minutes and voice up to 900, so a quiet month isn't wasted. On the free plan the 20 minutes reset each month. Minutes you buy as a top-up never expire.
I have more than one child. Do I pay twice?
No. One plan covers the whole family, however many children you have. They share the same minutes and the same six contacts — which is usually what you want, since siblings tend to be calling the same grandparents anyway.
Each child can have their own phone. That's a Plus feature, and so is giving one child a second phone — upstairs and downstairs, or two houses.
Does a grandparent calling in use my minutes?
Yes. The family's balance covers calls in both directions, and a call draws on whichever meter it uses — video or voice. The grandparent never sees a balance, is never asked to pay, and doesn't need an account.
What happens when we run out mid-call?
Nothing. We never hang up on a child because of a balance — the call finishes, and the balance goes slightly negative. You'll see it next time you open the parent settings.
Why only 6 contacts, even on Plus?
It's not a paywall. Six faces is what fits on a screen at a size a two-year-old can reliably hit. Adding a seventh would make all seven harder to press.
How do I cancel?
Through Google Play: Play Store → your profile picture → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → PuffinCall → Cancel. You keep Plus until the end of the month you paid for, then drop to the free tier. Your contacts, photos and history are untouched, and any minutes you bought as a pack stay yours.
Is there a free trial?
The free plan is the trial, and it doesn't end. Twenty minutes a month is enough to get everyone set up and to find out whether your child takes to it — and whether the daily call home becomes a habit — before you pay anything.
